The New Year brings 163 international trade fairs in
Germany AUMA expects further recovery in the
German trade fair business
6.01.2006 The German trade fair
organizers will be conducting 163 international trade fairs in Germany this
year. AUMA – the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry – expects around
173,000 exhibitors to participate at these events, about 2% more than at the
corresponding previous events. That would be the second-highest number of
exhibitors ever registered following the record result in the year 2000 with
174,600 participations. Furthermore, AUMA expects that the space rented at the
trade fairs will increase on average by around 1% and reach a total of over 6.5
mill. m². The number of visitors will probably be more than 9.5 mill., roughly
the same as the figure at the comparable previous events.
By comparison: according to the provisional figures, in 2005 the number of
exhibitors increased by over 2%, the rented space increased by about 0.5%, the
number of visitors was on average around 1% below the results at the previous
events.
In the opinion of AUMA, the reason for the further slight improvement in the
trade fair business is the expected slight acceleration in the growth of the
German economy and the associated more optimistic mood in numerous sectors.
Furthermore, the foreseeable significant increase in exports and imports will
further strengthen the role of the German trade fairs as platforms for
international trade and information.
