More Asian buyers at German trade fairs
Around 2.15 mill. international visitors in 2005
19.09.2006 The
trade fairs in Germany are increasingly developing into information and
procurement platforms for Asian importers. In 2005 a total of 240,000 visitors
were registered from Asia at the German trade fairs. That was 60% more than the
figure at the end of the 1990s. This growth is almost as large as that in the
number of Asian exhibitors who come to Germany. Their number has increased by
61% since 1999. This was revealed by a survey recently conducted by AUMA – the
Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, Berlin.
South, East and Central Asia accounted for 170,000 visitors, while a fur-ther
70,000 came from the Middle East. Overall, the international trade fairs in
Germany registered 2.15 mill. foreign visitors who informed themselves and
prepared their purchasing decisions; that was 22.5 % of all visitors last year.
The countries of the European Union accounted for over 1.4 mill. visitors, the
European countries outside the EU for 325,000. Thus Europa pro-vides 80% of all
the international visitors. Correspondingly, 20% or around 415,000 visitors
came from countries outside Europe. Besides Asia, America is the most important
overseas source of visitors with 120,000 visitors. Two-thirds of these
customers came from North America, one-third from Latin America.
Around 35,000 visitors came from countries in Africa, and around 20,000 from
Australia/Oceania.
