In Germany record attendance by trade fair visitors from abroad
In 2007 some 2.5 million visitors from around the world attended international trade fairs in Germany

23.10.2008 Germany is becoming an increasingly attractive trade fair venue for international buyers. In 2007 some 2.5 million visitors from abroad attended the 139 international trade fairs which took place in Germany, more than in any other year to date. This figure easily exceeded the previous record from 2004, when there were nearly 2.3 million visitors from abroad. At 23.6 %, the proportion of visitors from abroad was also slightly above the previously highest figure from 2004 (23.4 %). These are the results of an analysis now completed by AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry. Overall, in 2007 nearly 10.6 million visitors attended international trade fairs in Germany.

Around 500,000 (20 %) of the visitors from abroad were from countries outside Europe. Of this figure, the visitors who made up the largest share (200,000) were from south-eastern, eastern and central regions of Asia, followed by North America (90,000), the Middle East (85,000), and South America (70,000 visitors).

While Germany's immediate neighbours and other large EU countries dominated the visitor statistics, among them the Netherlands (160,000 visitors), Italy (135,000) and Austria (115,000), there were also 55,000 visitors from India and 35,000 from China, which ranked tenth and seventeenth respectively. As recently as five years ago there were only 21,000 visitors from India and 16,000 from China.
